Intent

At Ashby Church of England Primary School we value Art as an important part of our children’s educational journey through a broad and balanced curriculum - after all  "Art is not a thing, it is a way.” – Elbert Hubbard.

Art here is fully inclusive and all of our children are given opportunities to express their individual imagination and creativity, whilst we ensure the progressive development of both knowledge and skills.

Throughout their journey in art, we enable children to observe form first-hand experience and imagination to promote careful observation and appreciation of the world around us. 

We develop the children’s competence in controlling materials and tools, acquiring knowledge and becoming proficient in various art and design techniques and processes, as well as developing an awareness of the visual and tactile elements including colour, pattern and texture, line and tone, shape, form and space. 

We foster enjoyment and appreciation of the visual arts across our entire curriculum and develop a knowledge of significant artists, crafts people an designers.
