Intent
Design and Technology is an inspiring, versatile and practical subject that encourages children to think creatively, learn differently and overcome challenges whilst developing critical skills.
“Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Design is knowing which ones to keep.”
At Ashby Church of England Primary we strive to link learning from all areas of the curriculum to keep lessons relevant and engaging whilst embedding learning. Our children progressively develop technical skills and knowledge through exciting structured and memorable practical experiences. Our curriculum allows all children to think both collaboratively and independently whilst developing their curiosity and resilience.
Children will be inspired by engineers, chefs, architects and designers and allowed to engage their creative thinking in practical tasks including the creation of structures, textiles, electrical systems, mechanisms and food products.
We recognise the importance of D&T in preparing our children with skills that can be used in real life scenarios, which will enable them to become well rounded citizens.
